Customer Corner – How are schools using SAM Learning?
We love hearing the positive feedback from our schools across the globe, sharing the triumphs and successes they are having with SAM Learning. Our Customer Corner is a dedicated section of our newsletter to showcase how schools are benefiting and maximising the value of their SAM Learning subscription, to share best practice.….
“We use SAM learning as a way of engaging students in various areas- for example our most recent focus is year 10 underachieving boys, encouraging them to do learning at home. Our favourite feature is the leaderboard as this enables us to get a bit of a competitive spirit in school, hand out prizes etc.
The students are really positive about the weekly challenges, and currently the staff are positive about the AI use and immediate feedback, however we are starting to branch out to more staff.
Other schools should use SAM learning to enhance what they are already offering, including the use of immediate feedback, as well as helping to identify the students’ gaps through the PLCs. We had some teething issues, meaning that the set up took longer than planned, but since using the site regularly we have been impressed. It helps to identify gaps in the students’ learning through the PLC’s which reduces time for teachers marking assessment etc. We are using the platform for our PP students, meaning that they have access to something additional. We have students who have demonstrated an improvement in assessment grades – up to a grade, since using SAM learning regularly. It allows students to work on their gaps and to identify the areas to work on, which in turn improves their knowledge in these areas.” Samantha Luckham, Assistant Headteacher for Achievement and Engagement, The North School.
“We use Sam Learning for Years 10 and 11 for all subjects as an independent study revision tool. This compliments our homework and other online learning platforms. We use the analysis tool so that we can monitor and track how much students have used it, over a shorter and longer period of time, in which subjects and for how long. We use this data to generate rewards assemblies and recognise both individual students and whole students so that there is a competitive aspect to it too. Students are impressed and motivated by the Two GCSE grades better with 30 minutes per week pledge. A lot of them are doing more than that and have reported that they really like using Sam Learning as an independent study tool. Other schools should use SAM Learning as t matches to each exam board and there are loads of different activities to choose from so there is something for everyone. The fact that it is self marking and the reports are easy to generate is a bonus. Students can be completing additional work both to consolidate key knowledge and skills and also extend their understanding and deepen their learning in the subject.” Mrs S CcCavish, Assistant Headteacher, King’s Academy Prospect..
