Case Study from Amin H Choudhury,
Head of Key Stage 4 Science, Lead IV and Head of Chemistry:
Lea Valley Academy, Enfield.
I currently teach Year 11 Chemistry: Double (AQA Trilogy Science) and Triple (AQA Single Chemistry Science). I frequently use SAM Learning as a resource within my classroom. The platform allows me to save time by having the option to deliver exam skills for specific topics. I was able to use selective A01-, A02- and A03-type examination questions that students can target to improve their skills and knowledge of answering different levels of questions. As the students make progress from A01 (basic knowledge questions) to A02 (applied scientific skills questions), the students will be encouraged to complete the A03-type questions (long-answer questions).
During Easter revision, my students will be encouraged to log in to SAM Learning to answer questions to activities I have set. The reports produced are very useful to track student progress. If students fail to achieve 100% on all topic-related questions, then they will be encouraged to revise and complete the additional activities I have created on SAM Learning until they hit full marks.
I have suggested this revision plan to my students and they have shown good interest to take part over the half-term break. From 186 Year 11 students, I have approximately 114 students who have shown keen interest in this revision plan. Some students have already started preparation before the Easter SAM Learning assessment and exam skill revision initiates. This will also provide my students with the option to self-assess their work.
