Quote from SAM Coordinator: Paget High School
How have you used SAM Learning?
SAM Learning is being used by EBAC Subject Leads as a medium of intervention, so students can practice what they have learnt. We investigated whether there are comparative links between Mock Examination outcomes and SAM Learning average scores.
How did you carry out your analysis?
We used the Mock Examination grades to produce a forecast Progress 8 score. Then we plotted these against learners’ average scores in SAM Learning. This was done for all EBacc subjects.
What did you find?
We consistently found that learners with a higher forecast P8 scores were those with a higher average SAM learning score. Here is the Science results table as an example:
|Forecast Progress 8||Count||Avg SAML|
|Number of tasks set||48|
We also found that subjects which had set more SAM Learning tasks had the highest overall forecast P8 scores.
Where SAM Learning has been used effectively, where students are revisiting their learning to achieve 80%+, P8 index scores are better and students outcomes have improved.
What would you recommend to other schools?
SAM Learning is an effective way to target and focus the work of your learners – and when they score lower than 80%, ask them to do it again. As I like to say at Paget High: Practice makes permanent!
